Musica Frivola

Musica Frivola together again! The trio of Rebecca Jones, soprano, Mark Jordan, violinist and David Shepard, pianist performs 4:00pm April 29, 2012 at Marin Lutheran Church’s Festival of the Arts, 639 Meadowsweet, Corte Madera. Mark and I attended San Rafael High School, he in the pit and me onstage. We started this trio at Dominican College in 1974-75, then went our separate career and life ways. Now the fun is happening again with Maestro David on the ivories. We perform beautiful music like Handel, Scarlatti, Gershwin and Vaughn Williams while flirting with funny and fluffy stuff like arias “in the style of” Handel and Victor Herbert. The concert will raise funds for the Marin Homeless Chaplaincy. Come enjoy the fun and stay for the reception!

Sing, Stay Young at Heart

Singers’ hearts work more efficiently and heart rates are lower than non singers. Dr. Kathleen McCormick of the National Institute on Aging’s Gerontology Research Center commends enthusiastic song as one way to hold off declining heart and lung function that normally comes with age. Keep singing!!!!!!

San Rafael High Hall of Honor Award Byron Jones

YouTube by Jim Draper

On May 11th my father Byron Jones was inducted into the San Rafael High School Hall of Fame for his 32 years of service as choir director, music teacher and source of musical inspiration. To recognize his extra hours as musical director of the high school musicals, members of the 1970 cast of “The Music Man” sang Lida Rose/Dream of Now. Pictured are Rebecca Jones with, left to right, Parker Lee, Rick Klarkowski, Larry French and Jim Armington. My father’s name has been added to a beautiful wall plaque in the foyer of the auditorium. Hundreds of former students, friends, neighbors and family gathered for this joyous event. Thanks Dad for your musical gifts!

Westside Story

Del Mar Middle School April 3, 2011. Rebecca as choreographer and musical director with Adam Gavzer, director. Adam added rappers in the middle of “America” and musicians Daniel Savio and Michael Pinkham made it work. There’s nothing you can do to injure Bernstein’s masterpiece! There was a second cast, the blue cast, for alternate performance nights – 65 cast members in all! Some talented singers and actors at this school. I wish them all continued success.
